My last Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft post

Wow what a blast it has been being part of the crew at Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft.  I have adored playing with the products, getting my mixed media on and sharing my creations with everyone.  Today sadly is my last post as part of the guest design team.

Here is the layout with video I created as my last project.
I had fun playing with lots of their products mixing and matching as intended teamed up with some Tinby Designs Metallic melts, Spellbinders 'Birds on a wire' die cuts, 2Crafty chipboard, Bazzill cardstock and Kaisercraft Mister Fox collection papers.  Head on over to the blog post HERE for my video on how it came together, sit back and enjoy watching!

CSI Case file No 123

It has been a while but I just couldn't go past this case file from CSI.  I have always loved their challenges I think because they definitely challenge you at a higher level.  This one sure did that, but in the main I love that it challenged me to document a pretty important part of our life 'the story of our relationship'  I found another wedding photo not yet scrapped and it couldn't have been more perfect... funny how that happens sometimes!

Here is the layout I created:
Here also is the challenge I was working to:
I solved the case with a mixed media background, jewels in the form of glitter, stamping (was on the background I started with) and mistable elements (lots of spraying going on in this one)

I also wrote a story in the form of a fairytale.

Here is a video showing how the layout came together:
I had so much fun creating this and being challenged by the case file.  I also love that it inspired me to document how the two of us met which I hadn't yet done :)

I'll leave you with some more detail pictures so you can get up nice and close with the layout

I used some of my favourite products in creating this layout:
Tinby Designs Metallic Melts in Patina
Spellbiners Flutter tree die set and the Blooms Four set
The Crafter's Workshop window screen stencil - a long time favourite.
Faber-Castel Design Memory Craft Gelatos, papercrafter crayons and whipped Spackle
Imagine Crafts irRESISTibles

You can see how I used them in the video, so be sure to head on over and check it out :)

Also to let you know if you don't already, I will be teaching a mixed media layout at the Papercraft and Scrapbook Expo in Brisbane June 7-9.  I think there is a spot available on the Saturday and a couple on the Monday after I opened some more spots after previously selling out so quick.  Unfortunately due to room size no futher spots will be opened once sold out.

Have a great day and I hope you get a chance to get creative!

Spellbinders June Jamboree and published work share

New die release is around the corner for Spellbinders and they will be celebrating this as a June Jamboree!  How exciting!  I am totally even more excited as I am going to be taking part in the sharing of inspiring projects for you to create for yourself!

In the mean time I thought I would share a couple of layouts that were recently published in Scrapbook and Beyond Magazine in the US.

This first was published a little while ago but I'm a bit behind on sharing my published work so stay tuned for more.

This layout is in the current Issue of Scrapbooking and beyond and I must say I can't wait to get my hands on a copy!

I was SO THRILLED to have my work featured in there!  You can even order this magazine from anywhere in the world... can't wait to get my hands on my copy!

Hope to have some more of my published work up REAL soon!

'Labelling' photos with Spellbinders dies

Today I have a project up on the spellbinders Blog using 'label' dies in a different way than it's exact intended use.  I really enjoyed creating this layout from my boy's recent 3rd birthday party.  Hope you enjoy it too!

To create this layout I have used the following dies:

Here is a sneak, and head on over to the blog HERE to see the full post including step by step on how to create this layout

Have some fun creating and I hope I have inspired you to use your dies in a different way today

Teaching Teaching Teaching and so blessed beyond words!

I’m so excited to say that this year seems to be shaping up a as the year I’m getting out and about with so many amazing teaching opportunities!  I have been very blessed to be asked to share my passion at a number of events where I get to do what I love most of all.  Teaching and inspiring others while meeting so many wonderful people that enjoy what I love most... paper crafting.

Melbourne Scrapbook and Papercraft expo earlier this year was amazing and I really enjoyed meeting new people and sharing what I do.  You can check out some pictures here of what I got up to.

My next stop this year will be the Scrapbook and Papercraft expo in June.  I am teaching one class over the 3 days.  I’m so humbled to be teaching along so many amazing artists at this event.  I have only VERY limited spots left in my classes but considering opening a couple more spots each day.  If you miss out on a spot or would just like to stop by and say hi, please do… I’ll be about all weekend :D  My class is at 12 noon each day.  Click here if you would like to book in.  Here is a couple of sneaks of my class.

We will be creating a mixed media background using Tiny Metallic melts, Faber-Castell's gelatos and their new Whipped Spackle, embellishing the page Scrap Matts Chipbourd, Authentique papers, Spellbinders dies and Craft queen Buttons and sequins.  The finished layout will be your bonus after leaning many tips and techniques to create a more personalised scrapbooking style and achieve balance on your layouts. Warning: you might get addicted to gelatos, whipped spackle, Metallic melts and all things mixed media!

Class includes: A kit with a set of four Faber-Castell Gelatos, Authentique patterned papers, Craft Queen sequins and twine, Scrapmatts chipboard and cardstock, Spellbinders Die cuts. You’ll also use two colours of Tinby Designs Metallic Melts, Tsukineko ink and Faber-Castell Whipped Spackle.

I have also been recently announced as a new faculity member for Art Is You mixed media retreats.  I was beyond stunned when I was asked to join this group and be one of the featured artists at this year’s first Australian Road Show event to be held in August 2014!  The Road show will be travelling to Melbourne, New South Wales central coast and Brisbane.  This is going to be one amazing event.  There are a number of artists from America  and Australia sharing their amazing talent and I am again beyond humbled to be teaching.  I will be teaching an amazing technique focused class with the amazing talented Linda Lucas known for her clever use of colour.  Linda is one of Spellbinders bloggers and is also Artist in Residence for Tsukineko/ Imagine crafts.   I will post more details about our class soon.  In the meantime here is a share of mine and Linda's more mixed media focused artworks.

My next stop is going to be the Melbroune Paperific expo at which I am beyond blessed to be asked to be part of this fantastic event once again.  I will be teaching across the weekend and will also have one of my amazing Arty Chic’s Heather McMahon there as well.  Please come past and say hi to us.  Again I will be sharing some pics closer to the event which is held 29-31st August 2014.  You can check out details of the expo here there is even a video showing all the fun that can be had while there!  We will be having fun with some mixed media in the classes, sure to help you get your ‘creative’ on!

On 28th June I'm also heading off to country Victora to teach a bunch of lovely ladies (that have been following my work for some time now) two technique focused classes.  The first will be creating 2 Scrapbook pages and the second class will be a mixed media canvas.

The day is sure to be LOADS of fun.  I will have more details up on the blog shortly, but e-mail me (details further down in this post) if you are interesed in hearing more about it.

This class is being being organised in conjunction with Bella Carta Horsham, a shop that prides itself on its beautiful paper products, including stationary, craft and party goods.  They also import unique Italian gifts and products.
Shhhhhh!  The last big event I have been asked to do I can’t quite share details about yet, but it is a truly amazing event that I have been asked to do.  It is a large fundraising event retreat to be held in Melbourne in July with a cause close to most of us and a story that has touched many Aussie hearts.  Of course I will be donating my time and product to this amazing event and I will be asking you all to come be a part of it, as soon as I can share more details.

I really enjoy meeting new people, probably the biggest perk to what I do, so don't feel shy, come past and say hi.  Looking forward to meeting so many of you at these events.

Also if you are local to me in West Melbourne, e-mail me at orders.scrappychatdesigns@gmail.com and let me know you are interested in coming along to my local classes.  These are smaller groups as spots are very limited.  Also I'll add you to my mailing list keeping you up to date with my kit releases and other events I'm teaching at.

Spellbinders Springtime Shipping Frenzy - Day Two

Well how seriously exciting is this!  Today I am so honoured to be part of Spellbinders® Springtime Shipping Frenzy celebration sharing with you today's projects along with Linda Lucas.  I created two projects with the the new Butterflies Expandable pattern and Flutters die set.

Butterflies signify new life and it is perfect for the Spring time of year.  I therefore wanted to keep the colors light and fresh.  I also wanted to incorporate a butterfly pattern into the background as a texture element and the expandable pattern was perfect for this.  I knew I had the perfect picture (thanks to a dear friend that supplies with me many pics of her little girls to feed my addiction lol) for this mixed media scrapbook page, and so set about creating.  Here it is:

To create this scrapbook page, begin by cutting and embossing the following dies with the Spellbinders® Grand Calibur® Machine as detailed below.
  1. Cut/emboss the Butterflies Expandable pattern out of "flamingo" cardstock so that you have one pink butterfly you can cut out of the pattern
  2. Cut/emboss the Butterflies Expandable pattern out of Kaisercraft "coconut" cardstock, expanding the pattern two more times so that you have a piece that is 12 inches long approximately.  Cut out one of the butterflies so that you have one individual butterfly aside from the larger piece.
  3. Cut/emboss the ornate butterfly from the flutters die set twice so that you have one pink and one white butterfly using the new Spellinders® Tool'n One to aid removing it from the die, firstly with the brush and then the poking tool stored inside for those stubborn little bits that remain.
  1. Cut/emboss two of the Gold Majesty Circles dies #5 & #6 (with #1 being the smallest) nested together from the cream grid pattern paper and cut them in half as shown.
  2. Nest together #5 & #6 dies from the 5 x 7 Matting Basics A and cut/emboss the "flamingo" cardstock.
  3. Cut/emboss a large size Bitty Blossom die from the pink pattern paper.  If you are unsure how to create a flower from the die, feel free to check out my blog post here which has a video showing how I create them.
  4. Tear a 6 x 6 inch piece of green grid pattern paper, as well as a banner piece and color with some Faber-Castell® Design Memory Craft® Gelatos® in "metallic mint" diluted in a little water.
  5. Color your chipboard word with the Tsukineko® Dew Drop Ink pad in "Pixie Dust" and add Tinby Metallic melts in "Pink Sorbet".  Then apply some of the "Pixie dust" ink pad over the top.
Now that these elements are prepared, watch my video for the rest of the steps showing you how to incorporate them in this mixed media scrapbook page.

Here are some close-up pictures of the finished page:

A little more inspiration...
I have continued on with a theme of 'little girls' and created this cute fairy wand for all the little fairy want to be little girls out there with the Flutters die set.

  • Take a BBQ skewer and add some different color ribbons running it up one side and down the other, taped to the top only.  Finish off the ends of the ribbon with some Kaisercraft rhinestones in silver, pink and purple
  • Cut/emboss two pink solid flutter butterflies, and adhere this either side of the stick covering the tape with butterfly die cuts matching them up.
  • Layer one white and one purple glitter ornate butterfly, adhering them only on the center of the butterflies, and fan the wings out a little.
  • Finish off the butterfly with some Kaisercraft pink rhinestones.
  • I used some of the Art Institute Glitter, Inc. in lavender with the supplied adhesive to finish off the bottom of the wand.
